NONA

Nona is a project between two friends coming from Malay and Chinese cultures. The collaboration between students of these two races on a cultural project lead to the decision of creating an IP based on peranakan culture- a perfect hybrid of both. Nona is inspired by the shape of a 'kamcheng', a covered ceramic jar that also holds the meaning of "friendship". The body of the doll follows the shape of a kamcheng's body while the cover of the kamcheng is represented as a cute little hat on her head. Her colour scheme is heavily inspired by the colours typically used in peranakan ceramics- cheerful pastels that create a soft and beautiful palette.
