GALU

CHOW JIA GIN

GALU is a cultural design identity shaped from the "G" musical note, symbolizing unity, connection, and harmony across traditions. Its name, derived from lagu ("song" in Malay) and pronounced like "glue," reflects its purpose of sticking cultures together. Rooted in Gamelan's timeless role in Malaysian ceremonies and celebrations, GALU translates the essence of three instruments — Saron, Gendang, and Bonang — into distinctive outfit designs. Paired with three significant Nyonya patterns of embroidery, beaded shoes, and tiles, GALU blends rhythm and heritage, creating a unified aesthetic that celebrates diversity while connecting traditions through art, fashion, and storytelling.
